Description
A really lovely Pair of Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Brass Chimney Horses. Crisply modelled and standing upon moulded rectangular iron bases, these pieces are sometimes mistakenly referred to as doorstops, for which purpose they may of course be used, but, since they have never been lead filled, although quite heavy, they lack the weight and thus the stability required of the door-porter proper. Their true original purpose was to stand, as decorative ornaments, on either hearth or mantelshelf, a tribute to those noble creatures which played such an important and prominent role in everyday life in days gone by.
