Regency Period Mahogany Card Table, 1810 – 1820 Exquisite Marquetry & Pedestal Form
An exceptional Regency period c.1815 mahogany card table, distinguished by its refined craftsmanship and elegant architectural balance. The fold-over top is fashioned from richly figured mahogany quarter veneered, its warm grain enhanced by contrasting ebonised stringing that accentuates the clean Regency lines. The frieze displays fine satinwood marquetry, including a beautifully executed central motif that highlights the sophistication of the period.
The table is supported by a superb ring-turned pedestal, crisply carved and tapering gracefully into a quadripartite base. Each sabre leg is shaped with confidence, the pronounced knees continuing the satinwood inlay in a flowing, organic sweep. The legs terminate in original brass feet, adorned with an elegant leaf and flower motif, and sit atop original castors—an uncommon survival that further elevates the table’s desirability.
This piece is a textbook example of Regency design at its most refined: balanced, poised, and richly detailed without excess. Its compact yet stately presence makes it ideal as a card table, occasional table, or statement piece in a refined interior.
