Description
This is a truly delightful work of art as shown in the images above.
The amount of work on it is amazing!
I have never come across another Iraqi silver miniature like this one!
I have seen many bracelets, napkin rings, cufflinks, etc but not a cup & saucer.
You can see historical characters that have been engraved/chased around the cup with the name “Baghdad” in a panel between two of the people.
The cup is really good quality and well balanced: it feels amazing in the hand!
The saucer is also wonderfully chased and engraved as shown.
The bottom of both pieces is plain as shown.
This type of art was bought back by mainly British soldiers posted to Iraq during and after World War One. They were sent back or brought back to be given to wives as gifts and hence they are known as “sweetheart” pieces.
In amazing condition as shown.
The cup & saucer weigh a solid 63g.
Overall height is around 6cm and diameter of saucer is around 9cm.
Please note that the £1 coin and battery are NOT included.
