A handsome and substantial Victorian mahogany pedestal desk dating to circa 1870, of classic proportions and excellent quality. Constructed in richly figured mahogany, the desk displays a warm, mellow tone and a beautifully polished surface throughout.
The rectangular top is inset with a green leather writing surface, tooled with a decorative gilt border, providing a practical and elegant working area. Below, the arrangement of nine drawers offers generous storage, each fitted with brass ring handles and working locks, retaining a pleasing sense of originality.
Knee Height 61.5 cm
The twin pedestal form, with its gently rounded corners and plinth bases, is characteristic of the mid-Victorian period, combining both strength and refined design. The kneehole is well-proportioned, making the desk comfortable for everyday use, whether in a study, library or office setting.
