Description

A fine quality early Victorian rosewood ladies writing table of elegant proportions, the rectangular top with moulded edge enclosing a fitted superstructure incorporating a raised back shelf, flanked by finely carved scroll supports and fitted with delicate brass gallery rails.

Below the superstructure are three small drawers, each retaining its original turned brass knobs and working locks, above a pull-out writing surface inset with a red leather writing panel, decorated with gilt tooling. The main frieze is fitted with two further drawers, again retaining their original fittings.

The table is raised on boldly turned barley-twist legs, united by stretchers for strength and stability. The rosewood displays excellent colour and figuring throughout, with crisp detailing and well-executed joinery, clearly indicating a high-quality workshop piece.

A particularly attractive and practical example, ideal for use as a writing table, dressing table or small desk.
