An outstanding Victorian pop‑up davenport in solid walnut, notable for its rare piano‑style top and exceptional craftsmanship. The hinged top lifts to reveal the original tooled green leather writing surface, which is adjustable, along with twin pen trays, an ink compartment, and two small drawers that cleverly conceal the release mechanism for the pop‑up section.

The rising interior is fitted with three small drawers and four pigeonholes, providing charming and practical storage. To the right is a bank of four dovetailed drawers; to the left, matching faux drawers maintain the symmetry of the design, all retaining their original turned handles.

The desk stands on beautifully carved scroll supports set on a plinth base with carved bun feet. The walnut veneers are of superb quality and continue around the back, allowing the piece to stand freely in a room.
