A beautifully figured Victorian walnut centre table dating to around 1870, notable for its richly grained top and fine marquetry detail. The oval tilt-top is veneered in striking book-matched walnut, creating a dramatic flowing pattern, and is decorated with a central oval marquetry medallion of contrasting timbers. Three concentric stringing lines further accent the top, adding refinement without overpowering the natural beauty of the timber.
The table stands on an elegant carved walnut quadruple-column support, rising from a boldly carved quatrefoil base with scrolling cabriole legs, each terminating in original castors. The carving is crisp and well-executed, typical of mid-Victorian craftsmanship.
The tilt mechanism is sturdy and functions well, allowing the table to be displayed upright when not in use.
