A charming Victorian child’s Windsor armchair, traditionally constructed in solid elm and ash and dating to the late 19th century. Of classic hoop-back form, the chair features a pierced and shaped central splat flanked by slender turned spindles, all beneath a gracefully curved top rail.
The shaped elm seat displays attractive grain and warm colour, beautifully patinated through years of use. The turned legs are united by a crinoline stretcher, providing both strength and decorative appeal, while the gently curved arms give the piece its characteristic Windsor comfort and charm.
Well proportioned and sturdy, this delightful chair would make a wonderful decorative piece for a nursery, bedroom or country interior, and is equally appealing as a collector’s example of traditional English Windsor craftsmanship. circa 1850
