A handsome Regency period mahogany chest of drawers, dating to circa 1820, with an attractive warm colour and well-figured timber.
The rectangular top sits above an arrangement of two short over three long graduated drawers, the drawer fronts displaying particularly pleasing figuring. Each is fitted with decorative brass ring handles and keyhole escutcheons.
The chest is raised on elegant splayed bracket feet, joined by a shaped apron which gives the piece a lighter and more refined appearance than many chests of this period.
The close-up of the open drawer shows traditional dovetailed construction, consistent with its period manufacture.
A good, practical Regency chest with plenty of storage, attractive proportions and a lovely mellow colour. The restrained design would work equally well in a traditional or more contemporary interior.
English, circa 1820.
