RARE Anglo Indian Silver Bachelor’s Teapot c1890 SIGNED Kutch / Lucknow
This is a delightfully proportioned and great quality little work of art.
It feels great in the hands – very nicely balanced.
This silver teapot has a lovely standing elephant finial, a solid handle and four ‘lions paw’ feet.
It is wonderfully decorated all over with scrolling vines and leaves.
There is a shield shaped vacant cartouche.
What makes this little teapot even more desirable is that fact that it has been signed: most Anglo Indian silver is unsigned.
Stands 4 inches tall (10cm) x 11cm (handle to spout).
Weighs a solid 180g which is heavy considering its diminutive dimensions!
Tests as sterling.
Please note that the last image is included for information only: it shows a similar design on a teapot that sold for over £700.
Please have a look at our other Anglo Indian silver, all straight from a private collection.
Anglo Indian silver was made in several areas of India, each developing it’s own style of decoration:
Kutch or Cutch
Kashmir
Bombay (Mumbai)
Lucknow
Calcutta (Kolkata)
Madras (Chennai)
Famous documented silversmiths from these regions include Oomersi Mawji or Mawjee who really excelled in the art of silverwork.
