This is a very rare magazine published over 100 years ago.
It contains a 14 page article with some absolutely amazing photographs of Mecca and Arabia in 1917 which was during the First World War (1914-1918).
The author of the very detailed article was a Christian Missionary named Dr Zwemer and although he managed to get to Jeddah, he had to send a Muslim photographer to capture images of the Hajj, the Kaaba and the Mahmal.
The title of the article “Mecca the Mystic” reflected the lack of knowledge of Western travellers about Mecca and Arabia at that time. The British had been active in supporting the Arabian revolution against the Ottoman Empire during this period.
The photographs are amazing and very detailed – capturing a long lost place in time.
This rare journal is in wonderful condition with the contents being in very good, clean and complete condition. The covers are also in wonderful condition. Please note that there is some minor age related wear and tear but this is insignificant and to be expected on a book that is over 100 years old.
