A fine early 18th century (circa 1700) English oak refectory table, displaying beautiful period colour and exceptional character throughout. The four-plank top is made from wide, well-figured oak boards with centuries of patination, and is finished with traditional cleated ends to prevent warping.
In true early refectory form, the top is removable, allowing the base to be transported easily—an authentic construction feature of the time.
The table stands on four strong turned legs, each square-blocked at the foot, and united by sturdy H-form stretchers for stability. The timber has a deep, warm tone with the rich surface wear expected from over 300 years of use.
A superb and genuine country house table, full of history and presence—ideal for a kitchen, dining room, or large hallway.
