A handsome mid 19th century rosewood open bookcase of elegant proportions, dating to around 1850. Crafted from beautifully figured rosewood, the piece displays rich colour and striking natural grain throughout, enhanced by a warm, mellow patina developed over time.
The bookcase is designed with a clean architectural form, the top with a moulded edge above a series of open shelves supported by finely carved corbels that terminate into slender pilasters at either side. These decorative elements add both strength and visual interest while reflecting the refined craftsmanship of the period.
Inside, the bookcase offers three adjustable shelves, allowing flexibility for displaying books, decorative objects or collections of varying sizes. The open design makes it both practical and visually light, ideal for use in a library, study, sitting room or hallway.
The piece stands on a solid plinth base, giving it a grounded and substantial presence while maintaining its elegant proportions. The rich rosewood tone combined with the simple yet refined detailing makes this bookcase an attractive addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
