This is a RARE & delightful little box with a scene of Momotaro (Peach Boy) expelling an Oni (demon).
Whoever made this was a genius: the Oni looks as if he is running/jumping off the vesta! Momotaro appears to be on the other side of a portal (circular) and the Oni has one hand on his head and the other grasping the edge of this vesta as if he is ready to jump off!
There is some exquisite detailing on the faces of both characters and on the clothing of Momotaro.
The same design is repeated on the other side of this wonderful work of art.
This charming little work of art feels amazing in the hand – it measures 45mm x 30mm x 8mm and weighs 11.5g.
In very good, clean condition as shown in the images above: opens and closes nicely.
It still has two little vesta matches inside!
