Large Georgian Mahogany Wardrobe

A beautiful Georgian mahogany wardrobe, English, circa 1760, presented in superb showroom condition and ready for use in the home.

This elegant wardrobe is crafted from fine quality mahogany with a rich, deep colour and attractive grain. It is of a generous and practical size, making it not only a striking decorative piece but also highly functional for modern use. The wardrobe is topped with a fixed dentil-carved cornice, adding a refined architectural detail typical of mid-18th century English design. Below this, two well-proportioned raised panel doors open smoothly and are secured with a working lock and key, complemented by a brass closing strip for a secure fit.

The interior has been sensitively adapted for contemporary needs, lined at a later date with plywood and fitted with a hanging rail, making it ideal for clothing storage. The wardrobe sits above a single full-width drawer, constructed with traditional dovetail joints and lined in oak. The drawer is finished with brass swan neck handles, in keeping with the period style.

Importantly, the main wardrobe body lifts off the base drawer for ease of transport and access, a practical feature that makes this piece suitable even for homes with narrower staircases or doorways. The entire piece stands on classic bracket feet, completing the wardrobe’s stately and balanced Georgian form.
