A large and handsome Edwardian mahogany open bookcase, circa 1900, of substantial proportions and attractive, practical design.
The rectangular moulded top is supported by a pair of pilasters and a central dividing upright, creating two generous open sections, each fitted with three adjustable shelves above a fixed base shelf.
The shelf fronts are finished with moulded edges, whilst the sides are simply panelled, and the whole stands on a moulded plinth base raised on small bun feet.
The mahogany has a rich, warm colour with attractive grain and a pleasing patina, displaying minor marks and wear consistent with age and use.
Offering excellent storage and display space, this generously proportioned bookcase would be equally suited to a library, study, sitting room or office.
