A fine Georgian mahogany tilt-top dining table of generous proportions, dating from the late 18th century, circa 1780. The rectangular top is finely crossbanded in kingwood and Cuban mahogany, framed with delicate ebony stringing, and retains a rich, well-figured surface with excellent colour and patina.
The table is supported on a central turned and carved barrel-form column, raised on four swept splayed legs, each terminating in lion’s paw castors, allowing for ease of movement. The tilt-top mechanism functions smoothly, enabling practical storage when not in use.
A handsome and versatile piece, suitable for use as a dining table, centre table or occasional table, displaying the quality craftsmanship and refined detailing typical of the Georgian period.
