Description
A charming George II walnut bureau of lovely warm colour and rich patina, dating to circa 1730.
The sloping fall front opens to reveal a beautifully fitted interior, with a central arrangement of pigeonholes and small drawers, flanked by stepped compartments containing four further drawers. The fall provides a generous writing surface and retains attractive brass hinges.
Below are four graduated drawers, fitted with decorative brass handles and escutcheons, raised on shaped bracket feet.
The bureau displays wonderful character throughout, with the beautifully mellowed walnut retaining the marks and wear associated with nearly 300 years of use. The interior is particularly appealing, with its original-style arrangement of compartments and drawers, while the brass fittings are believed to be original.
A handsome and practical example of early Georgian furniture, offering both useful storage and an attractive writing space.
