A highly decorative early 20th-century French Rococo Revival wall-mounted étagère, dating to circa 1920.
The shaped frame is painted in a soft cream and richly highlighted with parcel-gilt decoration, incorporating scrolling foliage, flowers and rocaille ornament. Two open shelves are supported by elegant gilt barley-twist columns, while the mirrored back adds both light and depth when displaying decorative objects.
The elaborate shaped crest and apron are particularly attractive, giving the piece the character of 18th-century French Rococo furniture while retaining the useful proportions of a later decorative wall shelf.
A charming and unusual piece, ideal for displaying porcelain, glass, small objets d’art or other treasured pieces.
