A good quality Regency period mahogany Canterbury of elegant and practical form, dating to circa 1825. The piece is raised on turned supports terminating in its original brass castors, allowing for easy movement, and retains a useful frieze drawer fitted with original turned brass handles.
The top section is formed with a series of vertical divisions beneath a gently shaped gallery with carrying handle, designed for the neat storage of sheet music or periodicals. The proportions are particularly pleasing, with a well-figured mahogany throughout showing a rich, warm colour and patina.
Both decorative and functional, this is a classic Regency form that works equally well as a magazine rack or occasional piece in a sitting room or study.
