A fine quality Victorian burr walnut open bookcase dating to circa 1870, of generous proportions and excellent colour throughout.
This elegant piece is beautifully constructed in richly figured burr walnut, displaying striking grain patterns across the top, frieze and base, complemented by warm, well-aged tones. The bookcase features three spacious shelves, providing ample storage for books or decorative objects, all framed within subtly moulded edges and rounded uprights that soften the overall form.
The substantial plinth base gives the piece a grounded, architectural presence typical of mid-Victorian design, while the gently moulded cornice above adds balance and refinement. The proportions are particularly pleasing — wide and low, making it ideal for use beneath artwork or as a statement piece in a sitting room, study or hallway.
