A striking late 19th century French giltwood mirror of elegant rectangular form, richly adorned with an elaborate pierced crest featuring scrolling acanthus foliage and classical ornament.
The frame is finely carved throughout, with a bold beaded inner moulding and a deeply modelled outer border incorporating stylised motifs and corner flourishes. The original mirror plate is set within a secondary gilt slip, enhancing both depth and reflection, and is complemented by narrow marginal plates that add further refinement and light.
The quality of carving and the warm, original gilded surface give the piece a strong decorative presence, while retaining the subtle wear and patination consistent with age.
A highly decorative and versatile mirror, ideal for use above a mantel, in a hallway, or as a statement piece within a traditional or eclectic interior.
