This lovely Late 20th Century porcelain figurine, “Mezzetin”, { Mezzetino, from the commedia dell’arte }, after the painting by Jean-Antoine Watteau, { 1684 – 1721 }, was produced by the company set up by Reg Johnson together with his two sons, Keith and David, and bears all of the hallmarks of Reg’s multi-faceted talent. Superbly modelled and beautifully decorated, this delightful piece offers the perfect introduction to the works of this talented Staffordshire artist, examples of whose work may now be viewed at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. The underside fully marked in puce with the company backstamp, ie. REG JOHNSON AND SONS, Bone China, and in black script, Mezzetin, plus Painter’s Monogram, AS, { for Alan Swierty ~ pronounced Sventy – of Polish origin }, and Date, 1993 Hand Painted.
