A good quality English oak five-plank stool dating to around 1900, constructed using traditional pegged and nailed methods. The rectangular top retains a rich, well-worn surface with excellent colour and patina, showing the honest signs of age and use that give the piece its character.
The shaped frieze apron is simply cut with a row of shallow scallops, and the stool is raised on solid slab supports with shaped feet, all firmly jointed and structurally sound. The visible pegs and nail heads throughout highlight its vernacular construction and practical origins.
Originally intended as a working or utility stool, this piece now lends itself equally well to use as a side table, plant stand or decorative accent in both traditional and contemporary interiors. A charming and authentic example of early 20th-century English country furniture.
