Description
A fine Edwardian mahogany cylinder desk of elegant proportions, presented in excellent antique condition. The tambour front is beautifully inlaid with satinwood and contrasting marquetry, centred by a fan motif and framed by delicate scrolling foliage, displaying the refined craftsmanship of the Edwardian period.
Opening the cylinder reveals a well-appointed interior fitted with an arrangement of small drawers, pigeonholes and a central drawer. The pull-out writing surface retains its original leather, now attractively timeworn with areas of wear and patination consistent with over a century of use, adding to the desk’s authentic character and history.
Below are two frieze drawers decorated with matching marquetry and fitted with attractive brass handles. The desk stands on slender tapering square legs terminating in brass caps and castors, while a pierced brass gallery surrounds the top, adding a further touch of elegance.
Retaining a rich warm colour and lovely patina throughout, this is a charming and highly decorative Edwardian writing desk, combining practicality with timeless style.
