Description
A rare and amusing Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian reversible Staffordshire Pottery Portrait Figure, depicting on the one side, an English Sailor, standing holding a flag, and on the other, a French Soldier, standing, again holding a flag ~ H 813a. Somewhat surprisingly, Harding, in the Second Addendum to “Victorian Staffordshire Figures, 1835 – 1875″, allots, without qualification, the Reference Number 813 to this figure despite this number having already been allotted to a similar though quite different model. We have therefore, for the sake of clarity, ourselves added the suffix”a” to the figure listed here. For an identical figure, which on the day fetched £85.00 plus Buyer’s Premium, see “The Kimpton Collection of Staffordshire Portrait Figures” ~ Christie’s South Kensington ~ 09. 10 and 20. 11. 1979 { Lot 173 } ~ Review and Illustration, Antique Collecting ~ Vol. 14 ~ No. 9 ~ February 1980 { Our Stock Ref.
