Description
A scarce Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Friendly Society Brass Pole Head from the village of Westonzoyland in central Somerset. We are pleased to acknowledge with thanks the identification of this village kindly forwarded to us by Phillip Hoyland { fam.hoyland @talktalk.net } on 11 March 2021. The pole or stave, complete with brass shoe is almost certainly a later replacement, this perhaps with a view to the piece being recycled for use as a ceremonial wand. The original pole would certainly have been longer and probably painted in colours.
