A fine Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Doulton & Slater’s Ewer of classical form, the body decorated with an attractive design of floral inspiration. Art Director at Doulton from 1887 until his death, John Slater { 1844 – 1914 }, pioneered the decorative technique of impressing lace fabrics onto the surface of the clay, which practice was subsequently registered as Doulton & Slater’s Patent. The base of this piece impressed with the Royal Doulton mark of the period, DOULTON & SLATER’S PATENT, 5237, cn, BBG, all this plus a further small illegible impressed mark and a black painted faux astrological sign.
