Description
A good Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer Indented Pottery Hot-Water Plate, { Spode Shape No. S131 }, potted by Spode at their Spode Works, Stoke, Staffordshire. Printed in a medium blue palette with the “Gothic Castle” pattern, unmarked, but this recognised as being one of the few of Spode’s patterns so issued. Hot-Water plates were designed to keep an invalid’s food warm whilst enjoying a meal, and can be found, although with some difficulty today, decorated in a variety of Spode patterns.
