This is a fine example of a 19th-century British military campaign chest, crafted from rich, durable teak and designed with practicality and portability in mind. These chests were essential for officers during colonial campaigns, offering both functionality and an air of refinement in often rugged conditions.
The chest is constructed in two separate stacking sections, a hallmark of campaign furniture, allowing for easy transportation. Each section features inset brass handles and corner mounts—protecting the chest during travel and lending a distinguished military aesthetic.
The chest includes a total of five drawers—two short drawers at the top and three full-width drawers below—all with original flush-mounted campaign handles. The drawers function well and are of good quality solid teak construction.
The chest rests on turned bun feet.
