A good quality 19th Century Malay Kris (Keris), featuring the traditional undulating steel blade with elegant flowing curves and a finely carved hardwood hilt of distinctive form.
The dagger is housed within its original wooden scabbard, fitted with an embossed brass front plate decorated with intricate floral and foliate motifs. The beautifully figured timber crosspiece displays attractive grain and colour, complementing the detailed carving to the handle.
The wavy blade retains a pleasing aged patina and demonstrates the characteristic form associated with traditional Malay and Indonesian kris weapons. Highly regarded throughout Southeast Asia, the kris served not only as a weapon but also as a ceremonial and symbolic object, often carrying cultural and spiritual significance.
An attractive and decorative example, ideal for collectors of ethnographic artefacts, edged weapons or Asian antiques.
Condition:
Presented in good antique condition with age-related wear and patination consistent with age and use. The blade shows oxidation and surface wear commensurate with its age, while the scabbard and hilt remain well preserved.
Circa: 1850
