A 19th century camphor wood campaign trunk, dating to circa 1880.
Constructed from richly figured camphor wood, the rectangular trunk is extensively fitted with brass bindings and protective corner mounts, characteristic of travelling and campaign furniture.
The hinged lid is fitted with a recessed brass carrying handle, with further brass carrying handles to either side. The front retains its brass escutcheon and additional recessed handle.
The lid opens to reveal a spacious interior and a useful internal candle box to one side.
The beautifully figured camphor wood has developed a particularly attractive warm golden colour and patination, complemented by the aged brass fittings.
A good decorative and practical example of a traditional campaign travelling trunk.
Circa 1880.
