Description

A William IV rosewood sewing table of elegant proportions, the rectangular top displaying beautifully figured rosewood veneers above a single frieze drawer fitted with turned wooden knobs.

Beneath the drawer is a suspended, gathered fabric sewing bag, supported within a shaped rosewood frame. The whole is raised on a substantial central pedestal terminating in a shaped quadriform base with turned bun feet.

A particularly attractive example of early 19th-century cabinetmaking, combining richly figured rosewood, elegant proportions and practical design. The table retains a lovely warm colour and patina, with the unusual suspended sewing bag adding to its decorative appeal.

English, circa 1830.
