A William IV mahogany rise and fall buffet, dating to circa 1830.
Of rectangular form, the buffet incorporates three graduated tiers, the upper two designed to rise and fall, allowing the piece to be reduced to a conventional serving table when not in use.
The well-figured mahogany shelves have attractively rounded corners and moulded edges, supported on substantial panelled end standards. The base is united by a boldly turned central stretcher and raised on shaped platform feet with carved scroll brackets and turned bun feet.
A particularly useful and decorative example of early 19th-century dining-room furniture, originally intended for the display and serving of food, plates and tableware. The adjustable arrangement makes it equally practical today as a buffet, serving table, drinks table or display piece.
Good warm colour throughout, with the attractive figuring and patination expected of mahogany of this period.
