A good William IV mahogany butler’s tray on folding stand, dating to circa 1830.
The mahogany tray is fitted with four hinged sides, each with a pierced carrying handle, allowing the sides to be raised to form a deep-sided serving tray or folded flat to create a larger surface. The numerous brass hinges are both practical and characteristic of its ingenious construction.
The tray rests on a folding mahogany X-frame stand with webbing supports and can be easily removed from the base for carrying or serving.
Originally designed as a practical portable serving piece, it now makes an attractive and highly useful drinks table, occasional table or side table.
