A fine quality William IV mahogany bureau bookcase of elegant proportions, dating to circa 1840.
The upper section is fitted with a pair of panelled doors opening to reveal adjustable shelving, ideal for books or display. The fall-front writing surface below is beautifully inlaid with a classical urn motif within a satinwood oval, opening to a well-fitted interior comprising an arrangement of small drawers, pigeonholes and a central cupboard, all flanked by turned columns.
The base is fitted with two short and three long graduated drawers, retaining their original brass handles and escutcheons, and standing on shaped bracket feet.
The piece is finely figured throughout, with rich colour and attractive grain, further enhanced by delicate inlaid detailing to the drawer fronts and fall.
A practical and decorative item of English furniture, offering both storage and a refined writing surface.
Condition:
In good overall condition with minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The interior is clean and well preserved.
