A good early 19th century mahogany coopered wine cooler or planter, dating to circa 1820, of traditional form and raised on an elegant original stand.
The body is constructed in the manner of a coopered bucket, formed from vertical mahogany staves and bound with brass bands, which have developed a rich, mellow patina over time. The sides are fitted with attractive cast lion’s head ring handles, adding both decorative appeal and practicality.
The stand is of fine quality, raised on four gently tapering legs terminating in original brass caps and castors, allowing for ease of movement. The proportions are particularly pleasing, giving the piece a light and refined appearance despite its robust construction.

Originally intended for cooling wine or champagne, this versatile piece also works beautifully today as a planter or decorative feature.
