A finely modelled bronze sculpture of a recumbent lion, dating to around 1960, beautifully cast with strong anatomical detail and an expressive, brooding presence. The lion is shown crouched with head lowered and mane flowing, conveying both power and restraint, with excellent definition to the musculature, paws and tail.
The bronze displays a rich, deep patinated surface with subtle tonal variations that enhance the modelling and catch the light attractively. It is raised on its original stepped marble plinth, the dark stone veined in pale markings, providing a striking contrast to the warmth of the bronze and giving the piece a classical, sculptural presence.
Well-proportioned and substantial, this sculpture works equally well as a statement object on a console, sideboard or desk, or as a decorative focal point within a traditional or eclectic interior. A timeless and decorative piece, drawing inspiration from classical and academic animal sculpture, yet firmly rooted in mid-20th-century taste.
