A fine Victorian walnut trumpet-shaped sewing table, presented in excellent antique condition and retaining its original key. The circular hinged top opens to reveal a surprisingly elaborate fitted interior, arranged with numerous compartments for sewing implements, threads and accessories, all lined in attractive original patterned paper.
The centre is fitted with a decorative pierced walnut centre, surrounded by an array of storage divisions reflecting the thoughtful craftsmanship and practicality expected of quality Victorian sewing furniture.
The wonderful walnut veneers display rich colour and dramatic grain throughout, while the distinctive trumpet-shaped pedestal rises from a turned support to an elegant carved tripod base. The cabriole legs are beautifully enhanced with finely carved foliate decoration, providing both stability and visual appeal.
Compact yet highly decorative, this charming sewing table is a superb example of Victorian cabinetmaking, prized for its unusual form, intricate fitted interior and striking walnut timbers.
