Description
Rare Waffen-SS Soldbuch (pay book / personal identity document) issued to Martin Van Meensel, a Germanic volunteer (Germanischer Freiwilliger). Cover with embossed national eagle and SS runes, marked “Soldbuch zugleich Personalausweis.”
Contains the bearer’s photograph, unit entries including SS-Pz.Gren.Ers.Btl. 18 and service with the Langemarck division, blood group, and period stamps. A complete and desirable example of late-war SS volunteer documentation.
Authentic Waffen-SS Soldbücher of Germanic volunteers remain scarce and highly sought after by serious collectors.
Additional research: Martin van Meensel was a Flemish volunteer from Heverlee (Brabant). He enlisted in the SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 18 on 1 September 1944 and subsequently served with the SS-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade “Langemarck.” He died in Kriegslazarett 1/609 at Pasewalk and is buried at the German war cemetery in Pasewalk, north of Berlin.
