Victorian brass needle case made by W. Avery & Son, Redditch, UK . This cute little object has the maker’s marks embossed into the metal at the back of the case. The front cover is decorated with a raised basket of flowers surrounded by detailed scroll patterns that is repeated at the back. The easel stand is also covered in scroll decoration.
There is a section inside the case that would hold two needle packs and it stands firmly so as to be able to add or remove the needles.
The back of the case has a registration lozenge mark just above the maker’s name indicating the date to be from around 1880. This little item would have been patented.
Two of the four tiny clips at the back used to hold the case to the easel is missing but it still sits well and is secure. It measures 11.5cm x 5.2cm.
A lovely collector’s item for needlework enthusiasts or an artist as it represents a picture on an easel in miniature form.
