SOLD William Barr (Scottish) Oil Painting

A very fine and large view depicting Edinburgh Castle. The work has a lovely misty morning atmosphere with grazing sheep to the foreground. William Barrs work is collected in the United States as well as being renown in the UK as he worked in San Francisco for many years at the end of his life.

He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1895 to 1898, at South Kensington in London, and at the Académie Julian in Paris. Taught at Paisley School of Art for ten years later visited California. For the first time in 1912 and in 1915, following a trip to the San Francisco Panama Pacific Exhibition, he decided to settle there. He exhibited with the California Historical Society and the San Francisco Union League Club.
