SOLD Edwardian serpentine inlaid mahogany display cabinet.
Edwardian two door mahogany inlaid display cabinet, curved glass sides, serpentine glass front. A serpentine glass panel, probably the most difficult free hand cut one can attempt. Such is the difficulty cutting this kind of glass it often ment several broken before achieving this amazing serpentine fronted cabinet’s panels.
Cutting serpentine glass requires one single movement of constant pace and pressure applied whilst going up and down over a wave maintaining constant movement and pressure from start to finish. Extremely skilful.
The Serpentine glass panel of this cabinet has two small drawers below its overall sublime features. Fielded and satinwood banded, convex and concave lower panels surrounding the cabinet. The cornice, with satinwood finger dentils embellishing a shallow receding cornice with central satinwood inlaid frieze, cross banded throughout. Raised on eight square tapered and satinwood strung legs with spaded feet. As Edwardian cabinets go this is the one of extreme exception.
