Description
A superb set of six Gothic Revival dining chairs by Howard & Sons, London. The chairs are made of oak and stand on turned fluted legs to the front where the fluting has been highlighted with a darker stain and outswept back legs. The very deep seats have been professionally upholstered to a high standard using the finest of webbing materials and covered with a monogram H&S ticking. The serial number is stamped on the inner rear of the back leg to one of the chairs along with the original Howard & Sons label which has part worn away. The part label shows the address of 26 & 27 Berners Street which dates the chairs between 1866 – 1869. I have added an image of what the label would have looked like. The company expanded in 1869 to become 25,26,27 Berners Street. The chairs retain their original waxed finish. All loose joints have been re-glued and professionally upholstered.
