This is a set of 4 delightful little teaspoons made by the son and daughter in law of the renowned female silversmith Hester Bateman.
Ann Bateman first registered a mark in 1791 and retired in 1799 so this was the final year that this mark was used. Ann worked with her mother in law Hester Bateman for a number of years.
Each spoon is hallmarked as follows:
PB over AB for Peter Bateman and Ann Bateman
King George head – Duty mark
Capital letter ‘D’ for year – 1799
Lion passant – sterling silver purity
Each is 13cm long and the total weight is 64g.
In good condition as shown – each has the same engraved monogram of the original owner.
The marks are rubbed as shown in the images provided but you should note that finding a pair is difficult and finding a set of four is even more difficult.
A single teaspoon from the same year (1799) was recently offered on an internet platform for £85.
Another single teaspoon from 1798 was offered for £68.
Free UK postage is included.
Non UK buyers should request a quote.
