An exceedingly rare Irish Queen Anne chair made from a beautifully coloured red walnut circa 1720. The back panel is decorated with marquetry which is an early sign of the Dutch influence in Irish furniture. The marquetry includes an urn, bird, flowers and more unusually an almost comical ‘gremlins’ face. Also featuring lovely shaped shepherds crook arms, front cabriole legs with shell carving on the knees terminating in pad feet and outswept back legs. The seat has been re-covered in blue leather. Condition is very sound with the odd small, non-structual repair as to be expected with a chair of this age.
Height – 39″ Height to seat – 19″ Width – 22″ Depth – 19″
