Rare PAIR Denmark Svend Toxvaerd Stylish Mid Century Candlesticks Silver 165g 1950’s

These are a delightful pair of retro/mid century design candlesticks from Denmark by a highly sought after maker.

Their basic yet elegant shape would suit many settings and hence the timeless appeal of their design.

Svend Toxvaerd established his business in Copenhagen in 1946, immediately after the end of World War Two. He was a silversmith & designer and quickly rose to become one of he leading Scandinavian silversmiths of his time.

He worked with other designers to produce futuristic, contemporary and classical silver.

We have seen SINGLE candlesticks by this designer sell for over £200 and pairs will attract a premium as they always become separated.

A very similar pair is available from a Copenhagen based antiques dealer for £350 (including shipping).
They have the same hallmarks so these are from the period 1950-1960 (please see last image provided for information).

The hallmarks consist of the initials SVT for the makers name and the number 830 followed by the letter ‘S’ for 83% silver.

Dimensions are as follows:

Height 65mm x 75mm (Diameter) x 165g weight.

This exquisite mid century pair of candlesticks are made from 83% pure silver which was the standard in Denmark. They are weighted at the base to prevent them being knocked over.

Overall in amazing condition as this type of candlestick is easily dented/damaged. There are some minor blemishes and marks as shown – a good polish should sort these out.

Please note that the material used to weight the candlestick has become loose/fragmented on one of them and the velvet appears to be replaced. This would be fairly easy to address and then you would have a TOP quality pair of mid century designer candlesticks! However, this is reflected in the low price which is similar to the price of only ONE candlestick.
