An absolutely stunning pair of early Arts & Crafts English sterling silver salts complete with their original blue glass liners.
The Arts & Crafts movement started in the 1860’s led by figures such as William Morris.
This pair look almost Russian/Faberge with three ball feet on a tapering body.
The scrolls/leaf band looks wonderful and each has a vacant oval cartouche for the owner’s initials or heraldic arms.
I managed to weigh them without the glass lines but when I put the glass liners back in, one of them will not come out again.
They are heavy for their size and really well constructed: total weight WITHOUT the liners is 58g.
They each measure: 4cm (H) x 15.5cm (Widest point).
Makers Marks: HL over HL for Henry Lias (father) and Henry Lias (son)
Lion Passant for Sterling Silver
Leopard’s Head for London
Gothic Letter ‘S’ for 1873
Young Queen Victoria Head – Duty paid mark
The glass liners are in excellent condition.
The salt cellars have some minor scratches and blemishes – just need a bit of a clean and they would look amazing!
