Description

Here we have an absolutely delightful Dunhill boxed set consisting of a 9ct gold cigarette holder and five white spot/dot mouthpieces from the Art Deco period.

The cigarette holder is fully hallmarked for 1927.

It oozes quality and sophistication!

We believe that it may have been designed for a lady of elegance in the Art Deco period. Just imagine selecting which coloured mouthpiece to use for a particular occasion!

The hallmarks are as follows:

‘A D’ in a lozenge for Alfred Dunhill

‘9’ followed by ‘.375’ for 9ct gold

Anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office

‘C’ letter for 1927

The gold cigarette holder is just under 9cm long and weighs 6.09g.

The mouthpieces are made of Bakelite (an early plastic that was used in all sorts of products from telephones to light switches/fittings) that were screwed onto the end of a cigarette/cheroot holder and each one has the distinctive “White Dot” typical of Dunhill products of that period.

The fitted box even has little ‘rods’ for the mouthpieces to sit on!

This lot includes the following colours as shown in the images:

Ivory/white

Black

Navy blue

Green

Red

Each one measures 2cm long x 1cm wide x 0.5cm thick.

They are in amazing condition as shown.

We have used my 60x magnifier and cannot find any cracks, chips or repairs.

They are used but in excellent condition – almost 100 years old!
The white one has some slight discolouration from use.

The fitted box is in remarkable condition: deep rich colour leather on the outside and a velvet recessed base at the bottom with the silk lining printed with the Dunhill name.

The box measures 13cm x 6cm x 2cm

The silk interior has some minor marks and there is one small area of scuffing’ on the leather box. Overall in very good order for 98 years of age!

Just imagine who might have owned this at the height of the Art Deco period!

Please note that a similar one WITHOUT the all important box, no spare mouthpieces and of a later date (1940’s) sold recently on for £380 (see last image).
