Description
This is a rare survivor from the Pre World War One period of Northern English Football.
The front has an enamelled shield, above is a banner with the inscription:
“C. & D. F.A. 1906-07“
Which is Crewe & District Football Association.
On the back is the following inscription:
“Moulton
Alexandra
F.C
A. Hewitt”
With the full hallmarks:
Anchor for Birmingham
Anchor for Birmingham
Lion Passant for Sterling Silver
‘g’ for 1906
Also maker’s mark “V & S” for Vaughton & Sons”.
A Hewitt was a prolific scorer as can be seen from the image attached (only for reference and not included in this lot).
I believe that the letter ‘p’ next to his name is for penalties scored.
There were two Hewitts playing for the same team at that time who were probably brothers (T Hewitt and A Hewitt).
I have noted that A Hewitt played for several teams around the Greater Manchester area around 1905-1910.
A Hewitt also played for Witton Albion in the first season that they were entered into the FA Challenge Cup.
Overall in very good condition with some wear to the enamel as shown.
Weighs a solid 13g and measures 4.5cm x 3cm.
